About Tyler J. Jensen: Trauma-Informed Therapist in Iowa City
When I set out on this journey, I did not want to make just another therapy practice, I wanted to create a place you were looking for. I want to be the one you can trust with the things that are hardest to say out loud. So before I share all of the credentials, trainings, and so on, here is what matters most to me as a therapist: in this work, my job is to help you feel more empowered, safe within your body and environments, and healthily connected to yourself and others.

WHY I DO THIS WORK
The reason I built this practice
When people ask me, “how long have you been a therapist?” I usually tell them, “I always have been.” To some, that might sound like a cheesy therapist line, but to me, it has always felt true. From a very young age, I discovered a superpower of mine, which was the ability to effectively attune to the emotional states and experiences of individuals I was close to. Over time, this learned skill continued to develop until I found myself studying psychology at Iowa State University, and then eventually within my counseling program at East Carolina University.
I have been lucky enough to assist so many different people through some of the most challenging parts of their lives. Each of them requiring something new, something to expand upon, something to grow from. One of the main reasons I find myself continuing this work day after day is because of my own personal mental health work. I have learned to navigate my own mental health struggles, ADHD, the loss of a sibling when I was going through school - all leading me to become the clinician I am today. Without doing my own work, I would not be able to effectively and authentically sit with you through your most difficult moments. I have been there, I have overcome my challenges, and I very much look forward to helping you do the same.
