01 / The Work We DoTherapy Sessions
53 minutes that belong to you and the work you came to do. Sessions start once a week, to build a steady foundation. Together we work out what keeps happening in your life, and why it no longer suits you. Each session works on the roots of what has been overwhelming you, at a pace that feels safe.
02 / What you can expectSix things worth knowing before you reach out
Time
53 minutes, enough time for the day's work and an easy return to the rest of your day.
Length of Treatment
How long therapy takes is different for every client. One clear goal may take a handful of sessions, and patterns you have carried since childhood can take longer. I will give you my thoughts after the first few sessions, rather than a firm number on day one.
Price
$185 per session, paid on the day. I do not bill insurance, so you and I decide how your care goes. You can still ask your insurer to pay you back. I will give you a superbill, which is an itemized receipt you send to them yourself. You can also ask for a Good Faith Estimate before we start, and the No Surprises Act gives you the right to one.
Location
In person here in Iowa City, or by telehealth anywhere in Iowa and North Carolina. You can choose either one, and switch between them as you please. The quality of the therapy stays the same wherever it happens.
Content
You set the agenda for each session, so you are always working on the thing you count as most pressing. If nothing in particular comes to mind, I am glad to take the first step.
Frequency
I recommend weekly sessions to start, because a regular rhythm builds momentum and keeps your spirits up. Once sessions start to feel long, or less comes up between them, we can meet less often.
03 / How i Do The workEMDR, NARM, Ego-State Therapy and DBT, tailored to your needs
I am trained in four approaches, and I move between them as your needs change. NARM works on the survival habits you formed while you were making it through childhood. EMDR works on specific memories that still carry the same painful charge as the day they happened. Ego-State Therapy helps with dissociation: parts of you that want opposite things, a world that feels off, or a body that does not quite feel like yours. DBT skills work gives you tools to hold onto when the hard weeks come.
If you are curious about any of these approaches, ask me. I am glad to explain how I work.
