Fifteen minutes on the call, feeling the knot in your chest loosen, hopeful that you’ve finally found the right fit.
01 / Before We BeginTherapy Consultation
Free | 15 minutes | Phone, video or in person | Iowa and North CarolinaFifteen minutes, at no cost, with no strings attached. You tell me what you have been going through, I explain how I work, and we both get a clear sense of whether we are a good fit. Many of the clients who request a consultation have never been to therapy before, so the call suits first-timers and therapy veterans alike.

02 / What You Can ExpectSix things worth knowing before you reach out
PriceFree, with no card taken and nothing to cancel afterward. The consultation exists so you can judge the clinical fit before any money changes hands.
What we coverThree things, in whatever order they come show up in. What has been going on lately that lead to you reaching out, how I work as a therapist, and what you want therapy to help change in your life.
LengthAbout 15 minutes, and I try my best to hold to it. If we run a little long, it is because the conversation is flowing and useful work is being done, so you never need to worry about taking too much time.
Who is it forAdults 18 and over in Iowa and North Carolina, the two states where I hold a clinical license. If you live outside those states, say so in the form below, and we can look at other options, or I can help you find a therapist near you.
FormatBy phone, by video, or in person at my office in Iowa City. Pick whichever makes the call easiest for you to keep. You can choose on the form below.
What Happens NextIt is completely up to you. If you want to start therapy, sessions run 53 minutes and cost $185 each. I do not bill insurance, so I can give you an itemized receipt called a superbill, which you can send to your insurance company yourself. If we turn out not to be a good clinical fit, I will do my best to refer you to a clinician in my trusted network.
03 / What the consult is likeA conversation, with important questions from both of us
You can ask me anything in the fifteen minutes. How many clients I have worked with on what you are dealing with, what a first session looks like, how I handle the memories you have never said out loud. Asking a therapist to account for themselves is reasonable, and I would rather answer it on a free call than have you wonder through your first paid hour.
Nothing you say on the call obliges you to schedule anything further. If you finish it and decide against therapy for now, or that I am not the right fit, then my hope is that you can leave with a clearer sense of what you are looking for.
04 / Request a Free ConsultationHow can I best reach you?
The form takes about a minute to fill out and asks only for what I need to get in touch, so the larger details do not have to be written down now if you would rather wait for the consultation itself.
